Parents Make a Difference

How can you make a difference?

Parental involvement is a major key to the success of each child here at David W. Long Elementary School. We thank you for your continued support in working with your child, volunteering in the classroom, participating in our Family Nights, and attending other school functions.

A common question that comes up, is "How can we help the school?"

The following is a brief list of additional ways in which you can help our school.

Support Our Fundraisers

The PTO is a fantastic support to our school each year. They help to fund technology, field trips, school assemblies and so much more every year. We look forward for you partnering with PTO this year by completing your membership form.

Family Night

Throughout the school year, Long Elementary School works with the community members of local businesses. PTO sets up Family Nights at local restaurants. During these events, it is a great time to get together with our families from Long, have terrific food, and raise money for our students.

The PTO receives a percentage of all sales during this specific date as long as you bring in the Long Family Night flyer with you and give it to your server and/or cashier. Flyers are sent home with your child as a reminder of the next Long Night. You can also access the flyers on our school webpage or by signing up for the e-mail distribution list. If you plan ahead, you can purchase SCRIP gift cards (see below) to pay for your food.

Scrip Gift Card Program

Take part in our Scrip Gift Card Program and help keep our library up to date. By purchasing gift cards from the school library, the library gets a percentage of the sale. The proceeds are then put directly back into the library for new resources that can benefit your child. Please stop by the library or main office for more information. The Etiwanda School District Scrip Gift Card Program web site has more information including merchant list and scrip order form.

Be A Volunteer!

Volunteer opportunities may be available with your child's classroom, the school library, and with the PTO. For those interested, please contact your child’s teacher, the PTO, the main office, or the school library clerk for more information.

Please note our New District Policy and Volunteer Handbook.

The Etiwanda School District now has a district wide Parent Handbook. It is District Policy that "a volunteer serving in any capacity must sign the volunteer form provided in the district volunteer handbook."

A handbook can be picked up in the main office.

Thanks in advance for your service to our students and our school. We appreciate our volunteers!
